Day 1 - Lecture 1:
Nearly 5 million Americans live with chronic heart failure with 550,000 more diagnosed annually. It is an exceedingly complicated disorder with a post-diagnosis, 5-year mortality rate of over 50%. Clinician and academician, Louis Kuritzky, MD, offers new insights into this pernicious condition exploring its terminology, pathophysiology, and clinical manifestations, and then takes a deep dive into interventions and pharmacologic therapies and the eight questions you should be asking with respect to them.

Day 1 - Lecture 2:

Day 1 - Lecture 3:
Obstetrician-gynecologist, Elizabeth Prusak, MD, FACOG, reviews the most common gynecological procedures and problems encountered by the non-specialist. Day 2 - Lecture 1:
Migraine headaches account for substantial suffering and lost productivity with those afflicted generally dissatisfied with their care notwithstanding the variety of treatments currently available. Day 2 - Lecture 2:
Most physicians will be the subject of a malpractice claim at some point. Veteran malpractice defense counsel, Frederick Cummings, Esq., demystifies the litigation process with an A-to-Z review of the elements of a claim and the stages of its litigation, and the ways in which defendant physician can best assist in their own defense. In part one of his two-part talk, Mr. Cummings reviews the current state of malpractice litigation, the most common reasons for suit, the prima facie claim, litigation terminology, the summons and complaint, defendant doctor’s participation in the process and burden of proof.

Day 2 - Lecture 3:
The social and medical status of cannabis has changed dramatically in recent years. Pharmacologist and renown presenter, Thomas A. Viola, RPh, CCP, offers a comprehensive, 2-part review of the history, current legal status, pharmacology, physiological effects and medical uses of cannabis and terpenes. In part 1 Dr. Viola focuses on cannabis’ unusual state vs. federal legal status and consumer access, state specific medical marijuana programs, evidence for therapeutic efficacy, proposed uses for patients, and the types of cannabis as well as the anatomy of the plant itself.

Day 2 - Lecture 4:
Medically Assisted Treatment of OUD requires providers be properly certified and operate within applicable legal parameters. Former DEA special agent, Dennis Wichern, describes the nature of MAT and certification requirements, and uses actual case studies to explore emerging MAT issues, red flags and practice safeguards.

Mr. Wichern is a recognized expert on the dangers of heroin and the prescription drug epidemic and routinely speaks to healthcare organizations, pharmacies and providers to identify methods to better safeguard their practices and reduce the professional and operational risks emanating from these threats. He was the first to develop CME programs addressing MAT and pain prescribing safeguards, federal regulatory and DEA compliance, credentialing and drug destruction. Day 3
Day 3 - Lecture 1:
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Chest x-ray screening trials have failed to demonstrate any benefit: however, recent US clinical trial data shows significant reduction in lung cancer and all-cause mortality in appropriately selected smokers who underwent annual low dose CT for 3 years. Practitioner and academician, Louis Kuritzky, MD, reviews the most recent USPSTF screening recommendation, who should be screened, and criteria within hospital systems which indicate the ability to screen consistent with USPSTF standards.

Day 4 - Lecture 1:
Henry Ford Health System medical director of liver transplantation, Dilip Moonka, MD FAST, FAASLD, reviews the history and global prevalence of HBV and HCV, and then discusses risk factors, screening recommendations and the natural history of these diseases. There is a special emphasis on significant recent advances in treatment and their implications.

is the Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at Henry Ford Hospital. He received his medical degree from Stanford University, trained in gastroenterology and hepatology at the University of Pennsylvania, and is board certified in internal medicine, gastroenterology and transplant hepatology. Dr. Moonka has won numerous teaching awards from both the Department of Medicine and the Division of Gastroenterology and he conducts both clinical and bench research in liver transplantation, viral hepatitis and liver cancer with numerous publications in these areas.
